Early table ceramics
ca.1947 - ca.1956
Carstens table ceramics are rare to find and is is also extremely rare to find them with labels. The two pieces I have found have both three digits form numbers. The milk jug has also the number 100 that is the size of the jug.

Base marks with only form and size numbers are common on ceramics from ca. 1949 - ca. 1956. The first generation of the "twin house" mark was sometimes also used together with the form and size numbers.

Base marks with the text WEST GERMANY,
WEST-GERMANY, W-GERMANY or W.-GERMANY was used by Carstens from the very beginning 1949 until the company ceased 1977. The base marks
WEST- GERMANY and WEST GERMANY are very rare.
The base mark W-GERMANY is very rare on ceramics with the labels used ca.1955 - ca.1956 but can be found on pieces with the labels used from the period before (1949-1954) and after (1957-1960). Most ceramics with the label used
ca.1955-ca.1956 have the base mark GERMANY. The reason for this is not understood.
From ca.1957 almost all ceramics are marked with W.-GERMANY.
Most of the base marks are embossed but sometimes embossed base marks were used.

The base mark GERMANY" can be found on ceramics from ca. 1955 - ca. 1960. This base mark has not ben found on pieces with the first label used 1949-1954. I have only seen one vase with this base mark and the label used ca. 1961-1969. It was on a vase 626 26 that was introduced 1960. The base mark GERMANY was probably therefore only used until the early 60s. This base mark is embossed on all pieces I have seen.
