Debossed mark
1948 - ca. 1949

The company started 1948, one year before the formation of West and East Germany. Early S&G pieces are therefore marked ”GERMANY” and comes with the oldes S&G label used
1948 - ca. 1949. Pieces from this period are rare and it is therefore difficult to determine the exact time period for this mark. It is possible that the moulds were used a couple of years after 1949.

Debossed marks are often filled with glaze and can be difficult to read. Sometimes you can't se any mark at all. This is common on vases during the S&G period 1948-1953.

The embossed mark ”XXX-XX” is found with the label used ca. 1950 - ca. 1951. The exact time period for this mark is unclear.

The mould mark ”FOREIGN” can be found with labels used between ca. 1951 - ca. 1965. Most marks are embossed but debossed marks was also used. An inkmark was also used on early pieces.

The "S&G" label and the "handgemalt" label can also be found with this base mark.

Form number and size can be marked in many different ways; XXX, XXX/XX, XXX-XX, XXX over XX, XXX over X.

The mould mark ”XXX” or ”XXX” over ”XX” (or ”X”) can be found with labels used between
1954 - ca. 1969.

Most marks are embossed but some early mold marks are debossed. The embossed mark is common on a vide range of pieces.

The "S&G" label and the "handgemalt" label can also be found with this base mark.

The embossed mould mark ”XXX over XX W.GERMANY” can be found with labels used between ca. 1960 - ca. 1979. The mark is very rare with the purple "scheurich" label used ca. 1970 - ca 1979 so it was probably only used in the early 70s (I guess 1972).  A special variant of this mark is form 500 10 which has "GERMANY" over ".W." .

It is not known if the "S&G" label and the "handgemalt" label comes with this base mark.
